The Roath market or abattoir brings various stories to the people of the area Mrs. Burston got a cow in her living room and the house opposite got a pig in t front room in another street a cow ended up in one of the upstairs bedrooms. During a black icy day a bull was seen running up the street by a boy on his doorstep. Because of the weather he called out to his mum ' Mama mama there is a skating bull in the street. There were many a stampede of escaping animals with people climbing up onto lampposts for safety. Local children would often paid 2 shillings for every sheep they caught. During the war a bomb hit the market and all people could see was flying sheep. Although it was called Roath market it was in Adamsdown. The animals were transported to the market by train with a rail platform at the back of the market. By road transport or by walking from Rumney where many an animal would panic when they smelt the blood coming from the market. The market dates from 1862 to 1970 when it was demolished.
