The main clubs were the Top Rank, Sophia Gardens when it was still standing, that had a lot of bands playing there as well. The one I liked most of all because it had the most atmosphere was a club called Granny's which was above the Prince of Wales which in it's time was like a Porno cinema basically. Again there would be this weird juxtaposition of the Dirty Mac brigade going in downstairs and us lot going upstairs. It was literally falling apart. There was the upstairs with the bar where the bands played and then the second floor with another bar and the dance floor. That was directly above the cinema. If there was a band playing and you were on the second floor you would literally get the plaster falling off the ceiling from people jumping about above. It would be all over you by the end of the night. It was quite horrible if there was a lot of people in there and everyone was jumping around the sweat would condense on the ceiling and that would drip all over you. That was pretty gross. I saw bands like The Dammed there and Stiff Little fingers played there. It was good.
