I was born on Pearl Street in 1919 so that makes me 83. I don't feel 83. I left school at 11 because of my legs. I have had big operations on my legs I nearly lost my life with them. So I never went to school after I was 11. After that I just helped my mother- she had 5 children so she needed a little hand. I went in service for small pay and lots of work. I was there for a long time, got married and had my boy Phillip. I was good at housework. I lived with my mother for 2 years on Pearl Street before we came to Rumney.
