Grangetown History Society meet regularly at Grangetown Library. These stories were collected at one of their meetings.
My Grandfather actually kept pigs. He would have anything from 60- 100 and he would keep them up at the Droves, which is where B&Q is now. That area used to be allotments and Piggeries and that would be his living really. With his horse and cart he would go around Grangetown collecting the Swill. At Christmas time he would kill 4 or 5 pigs and butcher them in the shed. All the Grandchildren would have to deliver the bacon to all the people in the area. He wouldn't charge anything but people would give say 6p which would take back and Grandad would share it out. That was his way, local people fed his pigs with their scraps and he would give them something back at Christmas.
