John Sennet worked in Tremorfa Steelworks. He has recently been made redundant which has given him more time to study local history.
My local pub is the Great Eastern hotel on Metal Street, it is the oldest building in Adamsdown and dates back to 1855 as an Inn. Before that it was a farmhouse which was called Upper Splott Farm. That was built on the side of fair manor house that was built in 1586. The pub is haunted by a Mr. Evans, a gentleman that wore a Trilby hat. One story relating from it is about one landlord who going into a room heard his little boy talking to someone. When the father went into the room there was only his son. When asked who he was talking to the boy replied Mr. Evans. There was a barman, Tommy Evans. After locking up the pub one night waiting for the landlord to return he saw through the corner of his eye a man with a hat on walking down the passage. The landlord of the time was called Ashley Williams and his Father played Rugby for Cardiff and for Wales. The Splottlands pub is also said to be haunted, by a ghost called Matilda.
