Gerald Celestine Stevens was born and grew up in Cardiff central. He later came back to do a social sciences degree.

Then there was the anti-nuclear campaign. I was at the first demonstration, we had a sit down demo outside the castle. This was just before the Cuban missile crisis, up until then I was A- political but I joined the Welsh CND and we sat down outside the castle. The Cuban Missile crisis though was very frightening I was aware of the political scene and the American Consulates office used to be above Barclays, We demonstrated in there and went and sat down until the police came and dragged us out. I also took a letter to the French and the Russian consulates.
I joined the welsh committee of 100. They were a group that believed in direct action and it was led by people like George Clark, Bertrand Russell, whereas the others were more demonstration. I was also a part of Spies for Peace and they found out the plans of the regional seats of government and that they were secretly building these bunkers, they are being sold off now, there is one under Queen Street and part of it is still there, they dug quite a lot of it out when they built the Queens Centre. There was a canal there that ran from the Kingsway, under a tunnel under Queen Street and came out in Hills terrace that tunnel was only partly filled in when they drained the Glamorgan canal and they made it into a nuclear bunker. There is another big one at the top of Allensbank Road. These were put by for civil servants. That bunker is still there.
