Meraga's Dad was in the Icon Jazz band. She remembers growing up in Cardiff's jazz community
I also remember there being terraced houses in the middle of town all along bridge street, I would go swimming In Guilford Crescent then you would walk up bridge street and there would be women on the doorsteps and kids running around with dogs you would have Charles Street, that would have houses on it as did Churchill way. There was the Caricature theatre opposite the train station. I remember when I was a little girl going to Ballet at the Caricature theatre, before that It used to be a hostel for homeless people. It was a wonderful old building, you could look out over Queen Street Station and I remember later on when I was about 15 we used to rehearse in there, when you walked in there would be this big staircase whooshing up, really old fashioned with these beautiful ornate rooms. The Capitol cinema was also on that block as was the Lexington; I did a lot of underage drinking in there! They had a really good Juke box there and you would go downstairs and drink in the ruins on the old Capitol cinema, upstairs was an eating place and downstairs was this old smeggy bar. We also used to go to the Newmarket, which is now O'Neils, we also went to the Cambrian. That always used to be full of all the old Cardiff boys you would walk in and everybody would look at you.
