George Nicholas grew up on Taff Embankment. He used to play in the Taff and bunk off school to go down the docks
The riverbank it was great. In fact we used to walk across the river. I can remember once when it actually flooded. When it receded you had fish left on the banks of the river. Opposite my house there was an air raid shelter and it was great fun jumping across it and all that. At one time of the year you could go in the river and it was thick with Elvers- you know baby eels. They were magnificent. I don't think you get it now the water is too contaminated.
