Judi Richards was born in Cardiff and studied at The Welsh College Of Music And Drama. She then went on to be manager of The New Theatre.
My mother has some very clear memories, during the war she was nursing at St: David's Hospital which in those days was known as the city lodge and its previous name to that was probably the workhouse actually. Cardiff had several quite bad air raids, and she was nursing there the night of one of these raids. She was walking home, my grandfather owned a dairy on Newport Road and they lived on Richards Terrace, just off Newport Road, and as she was walking home in the blackout the funeral parlour had been hit and all the horses from the funeral parlour had escaped. She said it was like being part of 'Gone With The Wind'. But in fact when she turned the corner her house was no longer there. They were very fortunate, all of the family were fine.
