Phil Babot came to Cardiff to study. He first lived in Roath and then moved to Windsor Esplanade In the Docks
The saddest loss to Cardiff was the Hayes. I used to hang out a lot there. It was a Victorian area with old cobbled streets. It used to cover from the Marriott down to the CIA and then up as far as Toys R Us, backing on to the boys club. I used to go weight training there. There used to be this amazing second hand bookshop and an old pub called the greyhound that sold Scrumpy Cider on tap. Tramps used to drink in there all day. That area stretched down to Charles Street which was the main drag for clubs in those days.
