Susie Burston was born in 1913 and has lived in System Street, Adamsdown, all her life
When I left school I really, really wanted to be a nurse but I had not had high school education but I loved hospitals and I couldn't keep away from the Infirmary. I went there so many times they offered me work in the sowing room so I took it. I was there 9 years sowing up the buttons on the doctor's coats and of course we would patch sheets in those days. As a 14-year-old we put the patch on by hand, just tack it and then pass it to the machinist who would sow it on. I must truly tell you I love the infirmary now and if I was capable of going to the meetings now I would.
