At some points there would be a hooters and everybody would take in their washing, my auntie would rush out the house, because she lived on Portmanmoor road, my Grandmother would clean her windows two or three times a day because of all the red dust. [SH] It was the copper plant as they called it in them days, it was iron hoar and when the blast furnish was in operation and the wind was blowing everything would get covered in an orange covered dust, you could walk through it on the streets. It was thick MH: Whenever I went to see my Gran she would have to take something out of my eye, it was terrible. SH: yep everything was covered in dust.
