Graham Brewer has been a musician in Cardiff since the 1940's.
When Shirley Bassey started out we used to do concerts in Cardiff prison on a Sunday afternoon and Shirley used to be with us then. That was an experience. If they behaved themselves they were allowed to go and it was a point system because after you finished you used to have tea with the governor and you could ask so many questions and one of the questions was; looking from the window from the stage you could see a line of prisoners standing at ease sort of thing and I asked what are those doing standing out there and he said well they didn't have quite enough points to come inside! So they could stand outside and listen. Shirley Bassey asked the governor if there were any Women in the prison. Erm yes he said, how many? Oh um about 15. What are they in her for? He didn't know what to say and he said oh erm they were women of easy virtue! Talk about embarrassing.
