Freddy Manny was born down the docks and tells of his many adventures around the area.

I lived in Kings Road for about 5 years but was also back and fourth courting my wife from about 1944 onwards. Went all over Canton, the usual places the cinema, the Canton pub, the Kings Castle, The exchange. Canton had two cinemas and, the Canton Cinema used to be next door to where the police Station is now, it is now Iceland. Canton was like most districts, it was easier to go into Canton and shop rather than go into town. In those days money wasn't all that available, it was easier to walk into Canton rather than spend a penny on the bus. We used to go to the pictures or go to the pub and there would always be a do on the weekend. We used to go up to Victoria Park and places like that.
Victoria Park was alright in the summer, there was a swimming pool there and in the pool there they had Billy the Seal. He was an old favourite, everybody knew old Billy and I think Billy knew everybody. On a nice day you would walk up there, take a sandwich or bottle of pop. By the time you had walked up there spent a couple of hours and walked back you had broken the afternoon off. Every other Saturday it was down to Ninian Park to see Cardiff City. We were lucky in those days you could see Cardiff city one week and Rugby the next.
