Alan Jones is a traditional Jazz musician and a founder member of the Adamant Jazz band, a New Orleans style Traditional Jazz band.
When we played in the Western the Chief constable came in with his mates and of course the place fell completely silent. You know two high-ranking coppers walking in. He said can you play 'My Silver Ball' It is my silver wedding anniversary. Of course the whole place burst out laughing cos we thought we were going to be arrested. The atmosphere in those days was electric. You don't get it these days- although I don't go to that many discos. It was all very friendly and people were happy. I couldn't equate it to anything modern. People had to go every week, it was compelling. We did have mainly students and elderly people. The age range is vast. A lot the people who went to the Western are doctors and professionals now.
