Graham Brewer has been a musician in Cardiff since the 1940's.

How I started was at the Regent which was a ballroom in Grangetown. It is non- existent now, but my Mother and my Aunt, which was her sister. They used to have afternoon tea dances. I was only a kid then, I was 11. To keep out of trouble I used to go with my Mother and my cousins were there so it was all a bit of fun. Anyway this particular day there was no music or dancing and everyone was saying what is happening. The chap that owned it was Jimmy Gash. He said I am sorry ladies and gentlemen we can't have dancing today because the drummer hasn't turned up. Now unbeknown to me my Mother said oh my son can play the drums. So she came back to me and said come and see this gentleman here. I went over and he said' is this the drummer? Oh good lord' he said. My mother said well try it. So I went up and it was marvellous and that is how I started.
