Dorothy Lewis nee Higgins was born in Grangetown and has lived her life in Cardiff.

I grew up on Paget Street, Number 53. There were a few shops there, Tuck The Tailor, The Chemist and Lewis the Butcher. There was lower Grangetown which was more of a council Estate, we would have been classed as residential. The houses there were mostly owned. I went to school for a while in Grangetown then I went to Clarke's College opposite the infirmary. I travelled there everyday by tram. I finished school at 15. My mother had a big operation and she couldn't cope, so, as I wasn't very good at spelling my father said I should leave and take care of the house. I did learn short hand and typing but I wasn't very good at it so I stayed at home. I never worked, only in my own home.
