James Cowely has lived in the docks and Grangetown

That person there is Bobby Mount. He still sits on the Canal bridge to this day and every time I cross it he calls me the Lord Mayor of Grangetown. To this day when I see him he says I still owe him a penny because teacher always used to call me out and give me a dinner ticket. There was a cafe in James Street where the office people used to have their food and the dinner ticket allowed you to go around the back down the lane into the cellar where there was water dripping off the walls. The food you had was what was left over from the people upstairs and passed down. I have got to be honest I couldn't eat it. After that you had a damp suet Eccles cake from the cellar. It used to stick to the roof of your mouth. So one day Bobby Mount bought my ticket off me for 1p and he went down there. He said he took one look and ran back out. To this day he says I owe him a penny because he couldn't eat anything. He never used it.
