They used the small horse for hauling the coke in. He would pull the big drays along with the big horse. He was called the Gamboller. We had them for years and years and eventually they died. They were real working horses though. Now of course there is no Coke and no horses. When he left in the morning to go to work with the horse they would be out first thing and then he would come back late at night and brush them down, Stephen would help him. He used to love it.
Les didn't like the big horse. No Way. He wanted to go out the back for something and he went out without checking and the big horse was out in the yard and started walking towards Les. He was petrified. The horse was only going to the water butt! The big horse could be nasty but he was only ever nasty to Les' Dad because he made him work!
