Freddy Manny was born down the docks and tells of his many adventures around the area.
The firm moved then up to Cathays and I remember doing Fire watch duty. Everybody had to do compulsory firewatch duty and you got paid a few extra bob. The idea was that you stayed up all night in case any incendiaries were dropped on the buildings and you would put them out. Of course I found it easier to leave the electric fire on in the office, put some cushions down and have a sleep. I would wake up at 6.30 - 7 go home and then get back into work for 9pm. You would pick up about 10 shillings which in then was quite a lot of money.
