Chas has been in several ground breaking local bands, The Terrorist Ballet Dancers being the most well known.

At that time the big thing was punk. Punk had just hit the country and that was the big thing that gave me a family, no disrespect to my family, it gave me a family. It made a lot of sense to me. Anybody could be a punk rocker you didn't need anything or look pretty or have to have qualification. Class was out of the window, it was anti racism, anti sexism women had the same sort of- well there was no hierarchy. The whole thing was about breaking down boundaries which to me made a lot of sense. The punk scene in Cardiff was where I found myself and where I found a lot of good friends who were really sort of a family which I got into a lot.
