Beryl Davis grew up in Ely and has lived in Cardiff all her life. She trained at City Hall in the accounts department.

I remember the winter of 1947 with the snow. It was the same all over Cardiff. Dad opened the door to go to work in the morning at about 5am, he couldn't go out. He worked for the council as Ash man and he had a horse and cart. He was worried about his horse which lived down on trade street, Off Penarth Road. So we helped him, we dug out into the middle of the road, and the neighbours dug out from there side and they we dug all the way down the street so he could walk out onto the road. It took him two hours but he got there and the horse was fine. First thing in the morning he would brush him down and feed him. It was a regular thing and he loved that horse.
