I can remember my aunt coming to my mother and saying get out of here you will all be killed in your beds because we were right down the docks, we had the railway one side and the airport on the other - it was obvious we were gonna get killed. But no they protected us, it was Canton that got bombed not us. They actually used to light fires in Canton so as to draw the planes over.
