(During the snow in 1947)
Us as kids on the street we took the doors off the air raid shelters and tied them together and then got the dogs to pull us on the snow. We went down to the farm on these toboggans and got the milk for the whole street. When we got home we had a drop of Oxo soup and then we went back out, the other way down Mill Road at the bottom of Ely to the bakery. We came back with all this bread. We had a great time sliding and skidding about.
We also had this swing around the lamppost. You can't do it these days, but we used to swing on it.
Mum called us in at 9pm for a bite of supper and off to bed. We were off school for about two weeks then!
We had good time with the snow. There used to be a pool of water in the cemetery and we would go skating on there.
