Beryl Davis grew up in Ely and has lived in Cardiff all her life. She trained at City Hall in the accounts department.

Les was part of the Cadets and they had their own group over Park Street, it is all down now, he used to train them on the radio, the wireless. I used to go dancing on Friday night in Park Street. It was like a barracks that used to be there. They had all the army bits and pieces there. We had a teacher come and teach us to dance, the old fashioned dances, the fox trot and the Tango. We would practice all week and then it would be the dance on Friday night. It would be crowded and that is where met my Les. He asked me if I would play table tennis with him and then he asked if he could walk me home.
