Phil Babot came to Cardiff to study. He first lived in Roath and then moved to Windsor Esplanade In the Docks

There also used to be place called the pavilion in Sophia Gardens, where the circuses go now, and the roof collapsed because of the snow. In 1981 there was freak snow over Christmas. I came down from visiting my mother in Nottingham and was on the first train in for 2 weeks. I got off the train and there was nobody in Cardiff and there were 15-foot snowdrifts, it was like Moscow. So the weight of the snow collapsed the pavilion. It was then used as a roller-skating rink.
