Mal Clint is a musician and familiar figure on the local music scene. He was a good friend to Shakin' Stevens during his rise to fame.

I always tell the story that Shakey didn't have a mike stand, he actually had an old bird cage stand and he was sitting there on the rhythm guitar singing along with a birdcage stand holding the mike. He had an old tape recorder mike that he would sing into. So of course I said I'd got a mike and stand and you can use that.
The landlord of Vic said 'Quite often we have wedding parties on a Friday' so we started playing then every weekend. The pub would be packed out and people used to come from all over. We called the band 'The Rebels', a friend of Brian's, Steve Friar, played the electric Bass, so he joined the band then, as the bass player. So then we actually had the full band. After about a year we changed the name of the band to Shakin' Stevens and the Sunsets. So I was there at the start, and would go to all the bookings giving Brian a lift. Of course Steve then got a transit van so I used to go in the van with them.
