Beryl Davis grew up in Ely and has lived in Cardiff all her life. She trained at City Hall in the accounts department.
Our parents would never let us read the newspaper they always kept it under the cushion, no matter how old we were. I think it was because they got the News of the World! That was their business of course, but whenever they went out we would look under the seat and have a read! We used to live at the top of Ely by the cemetery. It is different now, completely different. My elder sister still lives in the area, a bit further up than us. I think the kids were much more friendly in those days- we would have a little bicker banter but we were always all out together.
