My father was a sea fairer so we only saw him when he came home, which was only occasionally but we would have more toys that anyone else from all over the world. My father was from Southampton and my mother bought him back to Cardiff, my friends could never understand his accent. My only real memory of my father was during the war when I met the yank, I told him I was 18 when of course I was 15 and I was arm in arm with him imagining I am off to Hollywood. And my father said, 'you know she is barely out of nappies'- well I didn't speak to my father for a month, he had ruined my life!
