Beryl Jesse grew up in Splott during the 1930's

When I was 10 we moved to Fairwater and I went to Splott Road School. I was never very interested in school as a youngster. My mother's sister lived in Swinton Street in Splott and Valerie was an only child as well. So Valerie and I were bought up more or less like sisters. They still lived in Splott and we used to go to the Whitsunday treats and the first year I went to Fairwater I was so concerned that Father Christmas wasn't going to come to the new house and I wouldn't be able to go to the Whitsun treat. But we all carried on going back to Splott.
